Are Diffuser Oils Safe for Pets?

Here’s What You Should Know 🐾

At Scent Society, we believe your home should smell incredible and be a safe space for everyone — including your pets. 💗 While diffusing can elevate your space and mood, it’s important to understand how scenting impacts your furry (or feathered!) friends.

Our diffuser oils are designed for use with cold-air diffusers — meaning no heat, no water, and no harsh chemicals. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

General Guidelines for Pet Safety:

  • Always diffuse in a well-ventilated room.

  • Keep your diffuser out of reach of curious paws and noses.

  • Never apply oils directly to your pet’s fur or skin.

  • When in doubt, start with short diffusing sessions and watch for any reactions.

Pets & Scenting 101:

🐶 Dogs Dogs can typically handle diffused scents well — just keep your diffuser secured and away from where it could be knocked over.

🐱 Cats Cats are more sensitive to certain essential oils (like tea tree, citrus, or peppermint), so opt for cat-safe blends and keep oils out of reach.

🐦 Birds Birds have delicate lungs, so always diffuse in a separate room or ensure proper airflow. Keep a close eye on them when introducing new scents.

🐰 Small Mammals (Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, etc.) Use diffusers at a distance — at least 6 feet from cages or enclosures. Avoid candles or strong sprays near them altogether.

🦎 Reptiles & Amphibians These pets are highly sensitive to airborne particles. Only diffuse in a different room, with great ventilation.

🐠 Fish Don’t place diffusers near open-top tanks. Always keep at least 6 feet of space between your scenting product and your tank.

🐴 Farm Animals Like dogs, horses and other barn animals tend to tolerate scents well — but always check with your vet, especially in enclosed spaces.

Final Tip: Always talk to your veterinarian before using fragrance products near sensitive animals. Every pet is unique, and their safety always comes first. 💛
